There are different kinds of tests that can be used to detect drug users. The most widely used one is that which involves analysis of a person’s urine. This is called the urine drug test.

Also sometimes called toxicological screening, urine drug screening is intended specifically as a means to test a person for drug abuse. Possible drug overdose (or drug poisoning) – whether intentional or accidental – can be evaluated by means of this drug test.

Other uses for urine drug screening are as follows:

-To determine the amount and type of drug (illicit or prescribed) a person used.

-To keep track of drug dependency.

-To determine the exact cause of drug poisoning.

-As a pre-employment requirement – to insure that a person is free of any illegal substance.

In general, urine drug screening is used to determine the presence of drugs of any kind in the body for medical and/or legal purposes.

This drug test can detect the general classes or types of drugs, especially those considered most commonly abused. These include the hallucinogens (LSD and such other substances that induce hallucination), opiates (heroin, morphine, and other narcotics), cannabis (marijuana and hashish), and the central nervous system (CNS) stimulants (amphetamines, cocaine, and crack) and depressants (barbiturates and tranquilizers).

The test, however, is incapable of marking the difference between prescription and illicit drugs within the same group or class. For example, a person taking prescribed tranquilizers to relieve his stress and another one using barbiturates would both manifest positive urine screening tests for CNS depressants.

Sometimes, a false-positive result can turn out. This means that a person who has taken only some over-the-counter drugs and submits to urine drug screening may be detected positive for either prescription or illegal drugs. In some cases too, a false-positive result may be due to some foods acting as interfering factors.

In performing urine drug screening, it is important to collect midstream urine sample. The person will be asked to stay in a room where it won’t be possible for him to make chemical alteration of his own sample (as in diluting it with water) or substitute someone else’s urine. The sample is then evaluated in the laboratory.

Another testing method that’s more sensitive may be used to corroborate a positive urine drug screening result. The test called gas chromatography-mass spectrometry is the most widely used for this purpose. This test is able to determine the specific compound present in the body.

Marijuana has been used by mankind for many thousands of years and yet there is a paucity of information about the exact number of people who are addicted to it: Although hard evidence is lacking about 5-10% of smokers who smoked pot will turn into chronic abusers of pot. Chronic smokers usually smoke more than two reefers a day and some may smoke as much as 10 reefers per day.

Addiction to marijuana is similar to addiction to other drugs in that the individual initially smoke with control and over a period of time they tend to smoke more quantities of weed to get high and this leads to addiction. However there is a major difference between weed and other drugs in that weed does not cause physical dependence. It the high of grass that the smoker is in search of!

Most smokers start pot in high school or college. Initially these are kind of social sessions with a lot of friends and fun. But over a period of time people start to smoke all by themselves and then the joint fills every single space and void in their lives. The enslavement of the individual is now complete.

Therefore to help people figure out their addiction, I have designed this simple questionnaire about marijuana addiction. By honestly answering these questions one can reliably learn about their addiction status.

Marijuana Addiction Test

Answer these questions in simple yes or no format. There is no time limit, but it is advisable not to spend too much time on these questions as your answers can get biased.

Why do you smoke pot? Is it only for pleasure?

Is pot affecting every single aspect of your life? Do you leave office or parties to smoke a joint? Do you choose friends based on their marijuana use?

Do you smoke alone?

If you are out of pot, does it make you anxious and jittery?

Do you think that weed is a panacea to all your problems and avoid dealing with in the first place?

Are your memory concentration, judgment and motivation getting affected by smoking pot?

Does marijuana use let you live in a make believe world?

Do you feel the need to cut back or quit smoking pot?

Have you tried to quit smoking pot before and failed?

Do you find yourself constantly facing concerns from your friends and family members about your pot usage?

If weed is not around, do you instead drink alcohol or do other drugs?

If you answer yes to more than six of these questions then you probably have a problem with marijuana abuse and the earlier one recognises it, easier is the remedy.

If you are confused with the various options that are present for alcohol addiction treatment in Michigan, an alcohol intervention might help you with the process. Most people think that an alcohol intervention in Michigan is good enough only for convincing people to come over their denials and to accept a form of treatment for their alcohol addiction, but this is definitely not all that they can do. In truth, a good program for alcohol intervention in Michigan will help you from the start to the end of the treatment program, guiding you and giving you good counsel every step of the way.

Here we see some of the ways in which an alcohol intervention program in Michigan can help you and what the contribution of a specialist on the intervention program is.

Convincing Patients to Accept Treatment
This is of course one of the most significant contributions of the alcohol intervention program in Michigan though it is not the only one. A group of people who are related to the patient in some form of the other come together and plan how they can motivate the patient to get into the treatment. This can take a lot of planning and even several sessions of rehearsal so that nothing backfires.

Just to make sure that the plan is carried out to the T, i.e. there is success in bringing the patient to the treatment program, the help of an intervention specialist is enlisted. The intervention specialist, who would be attached to the treatment center where you are planning the treatment, will first understand the condition of the patient thoroughly and the relation that everyone in the intervention group has with the patient. With the help of that information, they will prepare speeches for each member. These speeches will be given to every person of the intervention and they will be trained on how to deliver them.

On an appointed date, the intervention group will meet with the patient and counsel them individually and as a group on how their alcoholism is bad and how it can be treated. They are also motivated by letting them know the benefits they will be getting in case they are able to come out of the addiction. If the program becomes successful, the patient gets agreeable for the treatment.

Selecting the Treatment Center
It is definitely not easy to select a treatment center for alcoholism in Michigan because of the various options that are present in the state. However, an alcohol intervention in Michigan can help immensely in finding just such a program.

The specialist of intervention who already knows the condition of the patient well will now make some recommendations so that they can select the right treatment program. This program will be suggested on the basis of the condition of the patient. Families by themselves will not be able to select the most appropriate treatment center for the patient, but a specialist on intervention will be able to pinpoint the most appropriate kind of program for the patient’s condition.

Because the intervention specialist has good contacts with most of the treatment centers in the state, it doesn’t become much difficult for them to be updated on how the treatment program is progressing. They use this information to keep families up to date on the progress of the treatment. This really helps the families if the program is an inpatient treatment program that isolates the patient.

Helping with the Relapse Prevention
Another very important contribution of the alcohol intervention program is their help in curbing the chances of a relapse in the patient. Relapse is actually a very common thing to occur in addiction treatment. This is when the person starts getting the urge for the substance again and if not handled, this could be the reason of the person falling into the addiction again.

Knowing this risk, the alcohol intervention program lays out methods and strategies for the patient as well as their families so that they can cope with the addiction and make the treatment more sustainable. The patients themselves are told how they can curb the temptation when it occurs the next time. Families are trained on how they can recognize the signs of an impending relapse and if that happens, what they need to do.
In this manner, a program for alcohol intervention in Michigan can be real great help at every stage of that alcohol addiction treatment program. If you are looking for treatment for someone in your family, make sure you begin by looking for a proper intervention program.

Not everyone is quite familiar with the addiction treatment program in Indiana. As such, a program on drug intervention in Indiana can become quite useful for people who do not know in what way the system works. It can help them not only to understand the addiction treatment program of the state, but can also help them to find the most appropriate form of treatment measures for their condition and help them to go through the entire treatment without any problem.

There are many ways in which an intervention program can help when you are looking for treatment options in Indiana. The following is a list of some of the benefits that you can get.

Drug Intervention in Indiana helps in overcoming denial.
Denial is a very common thing seen in people who are with a drug problem in the state. This happens when the person does not want to acknowledge that there is a problem with them and hence does not want to get into any mode of treatment for it. People who are denying will not want any treatment for themselves and for this reason they will stay with the addiction. This becomes a very stressful situation for the family. However, if you use a program on drug intervention, they can guide you on how this denial process can be overcome.

A drug intervention program in Indiana will help you to form a group of people from the family and friends of the patient who can influence them into getting into the right mode of treatment. These people, known as the interveners, will be trained into motivating and encouraging the patient to get into the right kind of treatment. This is actually a careful laid out program which is prepared under the guidance of the intervention specialist, and on a specific date, these people meet with the person under the addition and then convince them collectively and individually to get out of the denial and accept a mode of treatment.

Drug Intervention in Indiana helps in selecting the right treatment option.
Once the person has come out of the denial, the next step is to find a suitable treatment program for them. Families who are not quite acquainted with the addiction treatment program in Indiana will not be able to do this effectively. However, an intervention program can help them in finding an appropriate option according to the requirements and the preferences of the patient. They will first outline and explain all the prevailing programs for drug addiction treatment in Indiana and then tell the family which of these programs would be best for the patient in the house. This helps the families choose the most authentic program.

It is not just about choosing; the intervention program will also help the families in the paperwork and the documentation required in making the admission. This is important because the centers of drug treatment in Indiana are almost always full. Having an intervention can help secure the seat faster.

Drug Intervention in Indiana helps getting updated throughout the program.
Most forms of addiction treatment in Indiana will isolate the patient. During this time, an intervention program becomes quite helpful because they can help the families to be updated on how the treatment program is progressing. An intervention program can do this because they have good contacts with the various treatment centers of the state and hence they can collaborate with them in a much better manner. This is also ideal for families who are not able to visit the center to know of the progress of treatment themselves because of their other obligations.

Drug Intervention in Indiana helps the patient in relapse prevention.
When the patient is discharged from the treatment center, it is important for the intervention program to come into action. They will help the patient to get properly rehabilitated in their normal society. In fact, most intervention programs in Indiana will send a representative over to escort the person home from the treatment center. They will also counsel the families of the patient in advance know how they should handle this coming home process so that it does not stress out the patient more. Some programs for drug intervention in Indiana might send some experienced person to stay with the patient so that they can guide the patient on relapse prevention for a few days till the patient is quite well equipped to do so.

Here are answers to some commonly asked questions about alcohol addiction treatment in Washington.

Q1. Where can I find a suitable addiction treatment center for alcoholism in Washington?
Washington has ample opportunities for finding alcohol addiction treatment. There are treatment centers in almost every part of the state, but you will find some of the best options in the areas of Seattle, Bellevue, Spokane and Tacoma. If you want to find a treatment center in your local area, then you can search on the Internet or speak with a substance abuse counselor who will find through any healthcare institution in the state. They will not only guide you in locating a center for alcohol addiction treatment in Washington but will also tell you what will be the best program for you as per your requirements.

Q2. Where do I get more information on what kind of alcohol addiction treatment in Washington is permissible?
The most convenient way would be to check out on the Internet. You may visit federal websites such as those of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the National Institute of Drug Abuse and the National Clearinghouse. This is where all programs that are permissible federally for treatment in Washington are listed. Also, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration website has a Facility Locator where you can get the link to your state health website. There, in the substance abuse section, you can find clearly what programs are suitable for alcohol addiction treatment in Washington.

Q3. What programs will help me get an insurance coverage for them?
Not all treatment programs in Washington are covered by the insurance companies, so you need to be careful. Also, if one program is covered by a particular insurance company, it does not mean that all providers will cover for it. The best thing to do is to call the insurance company before you plan on the treatment. Ask them what kinds of programs are permissible according to their policies and see if you can go with what they are providing. If you do that, coverage is assured for you. Also, the medical programs such as the detox are easily covered, but outpatient treatment programs and the various holistic programs will not be. In short, if the program is approved by the state, you have better chances of coverage.

Q4. Is detox always made compulsory in alcohol addiction treatment in Washington?
No. That depends on the condition of the patient. Two things are taken in to account. The first is the nature and extent of the addiction. If you have been drinking since a long time, it is certain that there will be a lot of alcohol residual in your body and hence you will need to go through the detox treatment program. Second, if you have some complication that will make treatment difficult or if you already have a condition because of the alcohol in your body, you will have to undergo the detox. Having a detox treatment is ideal in alcohol addiction treatment because it cleanses the body from the accumulated alcohol and hence purifies it. This helps the person to stay healthy for longer. At the same time, it is important to get detoxified because as long as alcohol persists in the body, the person will find it very difficult to come out of the craving for the substance.

Q5. How long does the detox treatment last in Washington?
This will depend on the kind of addiction the person is in actually. In general cases, the withdrawal from alcohol must begin anywhere between 1 and 2 days from the beginning of the abstinence. However, if the person has been too deeply into the addiction, the withdrawal may occur earlier and last longer. Typically, alcohol treatment requires a three day detox program in Washington. But in some cases, such as in people who have a very strong addiction to the substance and people who have some health complications that are making the treatment difficult, the detox can go on to seven days or more.

Q6. How is the aftercare provided?
The addiction treatment is not over with the detox, there is definitely an aftercare program that follows. But the way the aftercare will be conducted will actually depend on the nature of the person’s treatment. If the withdrawal was mild, it means the patient is not so much dependent on the substance as yet and so an outpatient aftercare treatment would suffice. But for people with heavy withdrawals, nothing less than a residential treatment program will do to maintain their treatment.

Unlikely as it might seem, there are certain family related issues that are proving to be an impediment in the drug addiction treatment in Oklahoma. The family is expected to be one of the strongest pillars in the addiction treatment program but, on the contrary, it is seen that the drug addiction treatment in Oklahoma is impeded by problems such as ignorance, codependency and family issues that might crop up as a byproduct of the addiction in the house. When that happens, it is definitely a sorry state because not only does the patient go deeper into the addiction, but the family also begins to require treatment. This is not just for addiction treatment involving young patients, but these family issues are also seen with older people who are into an addiction.
Let us take a look at some of the family problems that are rocking the scene of drug addiction treatment in Oklahoma and also check out how these problems are being circumvented.
1.	Ignorance
Ignorance about drug addiction is rampant in Oklahoma. People do not still know what it is about and always think a substance abuse condition is something that cannot happen in their own house. This feeling of complacency is actually adding to the problem.
Most families do not know that there is someone with an addiction problem in their house until it is too late. The signs may be quite apparent, but families who are ignorant or complacent about addiction related issues will not be able to read them. This will lead the patient to remain with the addiction till it reaches a heightened condition. At this point, it becomes quite difficult for the families to suitably intervene in the addiction treatment program for the patient even if they wanted to.
Then there is another kind of ignorance that becomes a problem. This is the ignorance that exists with finding the way the addiction treatment program works. There are several options for drug addiction treatment in Oklahoma, but families may not know about them. Even the word “rehab” is quite a collective term, because there are various ways in which rehab treatment can be implemented. Families who are not aware that there are different treatment programs will not be able to find a program that is suitable to the condition of the patient.
2.	Codependency Issues
Codependency happens when an external person or persons is instrumental in keeping an addict into the addicted state, i.e. away from a mode of treatment. This is seen in several families in Oklahoma that have an addicted person. A simple example is when families put the addiction of someone among them under wraps. They might do this for fear of social ridicule or to escape being named in an offense that the addicted person has committed. Though this might be out of love for the addicted person, in fact, it helps in giving a wrong signal to the addict and keeping him or her under the addiction for longer.
The issue of codependency is most rampant in families because they are the groups that will try to hide a person’s addiction. Families need to be counseled for coming out of this situation. Various counseling groups that exist in the state are quite active in this activity.
3.	Emotional Issues
Families that are not adept at handling addiction and substance abuse situations are quite likely to go into emotional overdrive. There might be people in the family who take the person’s addiction in quite a wrong manner and develop emotional problems themselves. They might go under depression, have anxiety, develop phobias and might even develop some cardiovascular problems such as hypertension.
This is a big handicap in the program for drug addiction treatment in Oklahoma because it magnifies the problem instead of solving it. These families are not able to properly intervene for the patient’s treatment, which entails convincing and motivating them to accept treatment, and they will not be able to monitor the condition of the patient even when the patient is admitted into the treatment center. A very important role of the family is during the aftercare process when the family is coached to monitor the patient so that he or she does not have a relapse. However, a family that is prone to emotional instability will not be able to participate in any manner at this stage, making it quite difficult to prevent a re-addiction possibility in the patient.

Preventing Drug and Alcohol Abuse.

MY view on Drug and Alcohol Prevention is to start with our kids at an early age to teach them to learn how to read, stay in school to get a good education, make positive choices in life and to learn positive communication skills. Also, if they learn that it is ok to talk and not keep things bottled up inside them they have a better chance of growing up with higher self-esteem and can have a better chance of handling more difficult challenges now and later in life. They also need to feel that they are loved and supported by their family. If we give our children the tools that they need to be the best that they can be in life this world will be a better place.

I believe that we need to support them in whatever they want to be as long as it is a positive thing of course.

We as parents also need to be the role models for our kids. I have actually seen with my own eyes in my lifetime parents who allowed their young children to drink beer at the age of 3 and 4 years old. The parents thought it was funny but that made me very angry. Some people may say that it is none of my business but something like that I make it my business. A child’s brain is still developing at those young ages and if we don’t love our children enough to protect them from Brain Damage at a young age we are just setting them up to become Alcoholics at a young age and they will have even more problems as they grow up. I have seen many things in my lifetime and that was the thing that upsets me the most. Even though Drug and Alcohol Addiction can be inherited it does not help things at all if we do things like those parents did.

I believe if we can prevent Drug and Alcohol Abuse that it can also reduce many Crimes, Violence, Child Abuse, Gangs, Domestic Violence, etc. in this world.

What I just wrote is my view on Preventing Drug and Alcohol Abuse.

Let me know your view and if you agree with what I wrote or disagree.

Most residents from Dallas know that the city has a major drug and alcohol problem. They may not know that in 2007, 4,213 persons sought after treatment for drug abuse. Narconon Arrowhead offers drug education programs across Texas and many other states. What is the Dallas area doing about drug abuse prevention you might ask yourself? They are sending out messages about substance abuse and starting up substance abuse prevention programs that are targeted to adolescents.

These messages and programs are provided through parents, the media, schools, and other sources. Information from the NSDUH report states that adolescents who talked with their parents about the dangers of alcohol, drugs, or tobacco use in the past year increased from 58.1 percent to 59.6 percent in 2007. The percentage of those who were exposed to school- based prevention messages in 2007 (70.2 percent) did not differ much from the percentage in 2002 (71.4 percent). Females aged 12-17 years are more apt then males to talk to their parents about substance abuse, receive messages from media sources or to receive information from their school, 61.5% vs. 57.4%.

The goal here is to educate kids as young as possible. The sooner they know the dangers of drugs they can make rational decisions. The most rational is to not start using drugs and alcohol. After all, it still remains relatively true that people who do not abuse drugs or alcohol during the decisive years, before the age of 25, are likely to never develop a serious drug or alcohol problem. Reaching children at an early age can make a tremendous difference in the outcome of their future. When a child starts using drugs and alcohol they are more apt to fail not only at school but in life as well. Drugs and alcohol damage not only the body and the mind; they damage the life course of an individual, keeping the person stuck in place where they can not move forward in a productive manner.

It is the responsibility of parents and communities together to educate and protect our children from the ever growing drug problem not only in Dallas Texas but across the nation. The Dallas community is taking steps to prevent drug abuse but, there is always more that needs to be done. Parents must make sure that if their children don’t ask the questions about drugs that they as the parents start the conversation and get into communication with their children on the topic. Parents also need to make sure they are educated about drug and alcohol abuse so that they know the signs to look for and can better educate their children.

If you or someone you love is struggling with substance abuse and are searching for drug rehab in Dallas Texas , call Narconon Arrowhead today. Narconon Arrowhead is one of the world’s largest and most effective inpatient drug rehabilitation and education programs with a success rate of over 70% of those who graduate. Narconon Arrowhead offers free addiction counseling, free assessments, and referrals to the residents in Dallas Texas.

Alcohol is a stimulant which addicts often resort to help them get over some form of depression or problems, like break up from relationships or marriage, loss of loved ones, job loss, etc alcohol here is seen as the solution to forgetting these problems and situations. Addicts always want to have their ways in any given issue or matter even when they are wrong. These are signs of an alcohol abuse effects.

The consumption of alcoholic beverages is for many a relaxing and enjoyable pastime. There are many social gatherings where drinks are served and everyone has fun socializing and sharing the time together. Sometimes there are those with a predisposition to alcohol abuse and these people gradually develop a dependence on the substance. Those who are victims of alcohol abuse cannot control the urge to drink.

The term “alcohol abuse” is used to describe a state less severe than true alcoholism. As an alcohol abuser, you may drink to excess and suffer social and health consequences, but never completely lose your control over the substance as you would in full-fledged alcoholism.

People who clearly drink too much on a regular basis are known as Alcohol abusers or problem drinkers. These so called Alcohol abusers can present a danger to others, when they reach a state called alcoholism they looses control on the amount of alcohol they drink and they cannot stop using alcohol despite the severe physical and psychological consequences of excessive drinking.

The drinking of alcohol should be control weather you are an addict or not so as to reduce the risk of health hazards. Addicts should be encouraged and empowered to develop the will and courage to go for rehab and get treatments immediately.

Alcohol affects the brain and the nervous system by slowing down the drinker’s reactions and making him feel tranquilized and relaxed. Alcohol dulls the brain. When someone takes alcohol, his inhibitions are lowered making him more aggressive and hostile. When taken in higher dosage, alcohol can cause mental block out, impairing the person’s concentration and ability to judge situations properly. This will also create distorted coordination and emotional reactions.

Many people wonder about recognizing the early signs of alcohol abuse. These can include: sneaking drinks, gulping first drinks, frequent memory blanks while engaging in drinking, unwillingness to discuss drinking habits, and feelings of guilt over drinking. An alcohol abuser will demonstrate a pattern of excessive drinking and usually sets out to drink in order to feel the “high” that excessive alcohol ingestion brings.

Other common alcohol abuse symptoms can include: often turning up late for work or school due to hangovers, frequent injuries that occur during times of excessive drinking, trouble with the authorities for drinking and driving or aggressive behavior. Physical signs of alcohol abuse are drunkenness, drowsiness, slurred speech, short attention span, uncoordinated movements, memory problems, and aggression.

Millions of individuals receive prescription drugs for their ailments and injuries each year. Some of them never finish the prescription and others take it as it was outlined. However, there are many individuals who use the drug to an extreme and they become addicted to it. In most cases, it starts out as an innocent way to control the pain they have on an ongoing basis. Yet the brain starts to crave more of it to feel good, and that leads to the monstrous habit called addiction. This is known as prescription drug abuse.

Many individuals who abuse prescription drugs have families and careers. This is a very different type of addiction than street drugs, yet often the symptoms are the same. The individual will usually do a very good job of hiding their needs from friends and family. They may even borrow or steal money to pay for the prescription drugs in some cases.

With a prescription drug abuse problem, addicts find themselves unable to go back to their doctor to get the same medication prescribed again and again. So, they usually sneak around and go to several different doctors. It is also common to buy the drugs in the black market without any prescription. In some extreme cases, people have been known to break their own bones or cause serious injuries so that a doctor will prescribe what they are after.

Pseudo-addiction refers to pain relief seeking behavior of patients whose pain is poorly managed. It is considered an iatrogenic effect of ineffective pain management.

Drug addiction is a treatable disease, utilizing a multi-disciplinary approach, but relapse is common. Prescription drug addiction is relatively rare in patients with chronic case but may be more common in individuals who have a past history of alcohol or substance abuse or dependence.

The first step for effective prescription drug abuse treatment is admitting that there is a problem. The next step is to stop hiding it so that your friends, family, and co-workers can offer you the support you need. For the treatment to be successful, it has to be treated from a physical and mental stand point.

Ironically, some prescription drug addictions can be treated effectively with other drugs. In some cases this is necessary to control the pain enough that the person can cope without the addictive drugs. To help prevent prescription drug addictions, only prescribed medication should be taken and that too in specified dosage only. Physician should be notified immediately if you can’t control the pain without addictive drugs.

As a general rule, over the counter drugs are used to treat conditions not necessarily requiring care from a health care provider and have been proven to meet higher safety standards for self-medication by patients. Often a lower dosage of a drug is approved for OTC use, while higher dosages remain the province of a prescription; a notable case is ibuprofen, which has been widely available as an OTC pain killer since the mid-1980s but is still available in doses up to four times the OTC dose for use in cases of severe orthopedic pain.

The safety and effectiveness of prescription drugs in the US is regulated by the federal Prescription Drug Marketing Act of 1987. The Food and Drug Administration is charged with implementing this law. Herbal preparations, vitamins, minerals, and food supplements are not regulated by the FDA, so the individual consumer must be aware of the potentially-negative effects of using these preparations and also the potential interactions with prescription drugs they may be taking.

Abuse and addiction are separate and distinct from physical dependence and tolerance. Physicians should be aware that addiction may not be accompanied by concurrent tolerance and symptoms of physical dependence in all addicts. In addition, abuse of opioids can occur in the absence of true addiction and is characterized by misuse for non-medical purposes, often in combination with other psychoactive substances.

Proper assessment of the patient, proper prescribing practices, periodic re-evaluation of therapy, and proper dispensing and storage are appropriate measures that help to limit abuse of Prescription drugs.
